The Empress
The Abundance That Grows
The energy of the card
In the middle of ripe grain sits the Empress, surrounded by forest and flowing water. She is the power of nature that makes everything grow: fertility, beauty, joy in life and creative abundance.
Your path with this card
What you sow now flourishes step by step. Growth needs good soil, warmth and time. The Empress invites you to tend what wants to sprout within you and around you.
- What in your life wants to grow right now?
- How well do you nourish yourself?
In the shadow
Abundance tips into excess, care into possessiveness. She reminds you to let things grow – even what develops differently than you hoped.
The image and its meaning
She symbolizes the maternal principle of becoming and passing away, the eternal and everlasting cycle of life.
The 12 stars stand for the 12 constellations of the astrological zodiac, the 7 pearls around her neck for the 7 classical planets. In this way the Empress also represents the creative power of the entire universe. The universe is constantly creating new life somewhere, yet it also allows old life to die.
The Empress is surrounded by ripe grain, lush forest and a bubbling brook – all images of the goodness of Mother Nature. The Empress calls on us to let our abilities and insights grow. We are to take our place in the cycle of becoming and passing away and keep developing.
When we give this process of growth room, body, mind and soul will harvest ripe fruit.
