Two of Wands

The World in Your Hand

The energy of the card

A man stands between two wands on a terrace, a globe in his hand, gazing out over the land. He owns a great deal – and yet the fire is missing. The card shows a state of in-between that easily tips into indifference, weariness and indecision.

Your path with this card

The fire returns when, step by step, you sense what truly touches you. Often the direction only shows once you dare a small step out of the middle. The card invites you to ask honestly what your heart beats for.

  • Where are you lukewarm right now, even though something actually matters to you?
  • What would set you on fire again?

In the shadow

Here the card itself lies in shadow: listlessness, getting stuck between two chairs, a waiting that wears you out. It invites you to use the middle as a resting point – and then take a stand again.

The image and its meaning

The Two of Wands shows us two levels of reality: the world in the background and the model of the world in the observer’s hand.

The card shows a low wall that opens a wide view onto new challenges. The observer is still in the planning phase. Does he want to reach another continent?

Is he pondering the big picture of the world in order to develop new plans from it? The card encourages the seeker to plan carefully. He stands between the wands, between the tools, yet he is still weighing things up.

At some point he will carry out his plan, but the course has not been set yet. Great undertakings always require a healthy measure of planning and care. The card also reminds us of the big difference between theory and practice – for only in practice do we discover the obstacles and details that are still unknown to us while planning.

The left hand on the wand – the side of the heart – tells us that this is also about including our intuition.
