Ace of Swords
The Bright Cut
The energy of the card
A hand reaches from the cloud holding a crowned sword, high above the peaks. The card brings the moment when the fog tears open and a thought suddenly stands sharp and clear. It gives you the chance to recognize and to decide.
Your path with this card
Clarity rarely comes all at once – it grows with every thought you think through to the end. A first clear sentence shows you the second. The card invites you to follow this clarity and give it a decision.
- Which insight is almost within reach right now?
- Which decision is waiting for you to speak it out loud?
In the shadow
A sharp mind can also cut coldly. The card invites you to guide your clarity with care, so that it separates what belongs apart and spares what is alive.
The image and its meaning
A majestic sword takes command of the realm of air.
The suit of Swords is governed by the element of air – the element of clarity, of thinking and of conscious perception. In tarot, the sword symbolizes a sharp mind, assertiveness and a strong will as well as unstoppable fate. A sword is the most important offensive weapon in close combat.
In the Old Testament a sword is first mentioned after the expulsion from paradise. It turns on its own axis, is guarded by two angels and closes the entrance to the Garden of Eden to the banished humans. The Ace of Swords is about the sharp mind crowned with sovereignty.
It is about independent, original thoughts, free creativity and the release of your own mental potential – the power of the mind. This potential is supported by spirituality and willpower. The Ace of Swords in tarot gives us courage to make full use of our mental potential and promises us decisive new ideas.
Thoughts are free, and whoever uses a sharp mind can better protect themselves against untruths and manipulation in the flood of information.
