Ten of Swords

The Final Line

The energy of the card

Under a dark sky, someone lies on the ground, pierced by ten swords. The card shows a hard ending, a line drawn on purpose – painful, and sometimes a release at the same time. What is over is over.

Your path with this card

After an ending, life rearranges itself in small steps. On the card’s horizon the sky is already brightening, even if you can barely see it at first. The card invites you to acknowledge the ending and slowly turn your gaze toward the light.

  • What in your life has come to its end?
  • Which final line would bring you relief?

In the shadow

Here the card itself lies in shadow: rupture, loss, a pain that runs deep. It invites you to dare a clean cut where it heals, and to treat what remains with care.

The image and its meaning

A figure pierced by 10 swords – he lies there pinned down and powerless.

An overly clear image of powerlessness. Beliefs, false ideas and fanatical ways of thinking can bring our personal growth to a standstill. The figure in the Ten of Swords no longer has a working backbone; the whole body is affected – abdomen, chest, heart and head are unable to act.

In this situation there is no initiative left, no power, not even wishful thinking – the worst situation a person can be in. He can no longer free himself from it by his own strength. So the card can mean that we depend on the help of people who mean well with us, who correct our beliefs and suggest alternatives – even if that (pulling out the many swords) brings pain of its own.

But the card also offers reason for hope – on the horizon the darkness is already lifting and revealing a clear golden sky. If we accept the help, a golden time and healing will soon come our way.
