Death
The End That Sets Free
The energy of the card
The rider in black armor moves through the land, and everything bows before him. The card shows a natural ending: something has been fulfilled or has run its course and may go. On the horizon, the sun is already rising.
Your path with this card
Farewell happens in steps. With every letting go, space opens up, and the new grows in that space. The card invites you to give the ending dignity – and the beginning after it your trust.
- What in your life has been fulfilled and may now go?
- What is space opening up for when you let go?
In the shadow
Here the card itself lies in shadow: farewell, loss, grief. It invites you to acknowledge the ending and mourn it rather than cling to it.
The image and its meaning
Death stands for a painful farewell.
In the end nothing is as it was before. Sometimes the tarot card Death also reminds us to shed a part of ourselves – our old beliefs or imposed values – and simply let go. In its wholeness, Death does not symbolize a premature end to a matter, but the natural process of dying or of saying goodbye.
The context of the cards usually reveals the cause of the end of a situation, as well as the personal reckoning that is needed. The tarot card encourages us to accept the necessary process and to bear the pain and the finality, since positive aspects can emerge from it once the change has taken place.
