Ten of Wands

The Heavy Load

The energy of the card

A stooped man hauls ten wands home, so many that they block his view. The card shows overload, a burden that is too heavy right now. The goal is within reach – and still it asks whether you have to carry it all alone.

Your path with this card

The load grows lighter when, step by step, you check what truly belongs to you. The way home only reveals itself once you lift your gaze above the wands. The card invites you to persevere and to accept help.

  • What are you carrying right now that actually belongs to someone else?
  • Who could take part of the load off your shoulders?

In the shadow

Here the card itself lies in shadow: exhaustion, a heavy sense of duty, losing the overview. It invites you to honestly acknowledge your limits and ask for support.

The image and its meaning

The Ten of Wands can be interpreted in several ways.

On the one hand, the journeyman gathers his strength and prepares to put his wands to use. On the other hand, he looks strained and his view is blocked by the wands. Either way, he has something big in mind and is moving toward houses, fields and trees.

This card suggests that with big goals you should not scatter your energy needlessly but focus on what matters. The figure holds the greatest possible number of wands tightly and therefore only has to walk his path a single time. For maximum success we have to focus on our talents and strengths, not on our weaknesses.

If we always want to be perfectionists and only work on our weaknesses and mistakes, we lose sight of what really matters. Then we can no longer use the strengths we already have effectively. To reach our goals – this is the core message of the card – we have to concentrate our strength and resources on the one task.
