Three of Pentacles

The Art of the Vault

The energy of the card

In a church, a stonemason stands on a bench showing his work while two people holding plans look on. The card shows a test of skill: you prove what you can do and rise to a higher level. Something old is completed, something more mature begins.

Your path with this card

Your skill grows with every stone you set. Every test you master opens the door to the next level. The card invites you to grow beyond yourself and leave old patterns behind.

  • Where are you ready to show what you can do?
  • Which old pattern can you now leave behind?

In the shadow

Tests stir up stage fright and the wish to stick with what you know. The card invites you to trust yourself – you have grown.

The image and its meaning

3 people with different skills are working on completing a pillar with 3 pentacles.

The Three of Pentacles invites us to complete a particular task as a team. This card can also be interpreted to mean that we should draw on the skills of other people. An abbot commissions the work, an architect plans the building and the stonemason puts the task into practice – each according to his abilities, each with his own gifts and talents.

Everyone can do something that someone else needs right now. The 3 coins on the pillar have not yet been gilded – this task is still to come. A sign of a task already begun that needs to be completed.

This is not necessarily physical work – our personal spiritual growth can also be expressed through the imagery of this card. In that case we can turn to other people who have already successfully walked part of their spiritual path. The Three of Pentacles invites us to rely on others for our goal as well, to delegate tasks and to make use of the abilities of different people.
